As someone who suffered from acne most of my life, I’m in a constant state of trying new products, getting beauty treatments, taking many trips to the dermatologist etc, adjusting my diet, etc. One of my goals this year is to simplify my skincare, hair, and makeup routine. In the acting biz, your face is pretty much your meal ticket so it’s especially important to keep the breakouts at bay. Needless to say I’m always searching for the holy grail beauty treatment, something that might turn my skincare routine into the well oiled machine (get it?) it should be.
So when I started hearing how beauty oils could actually help my adult acne, I had to look more into this theory. Usually oily, congested and acne prone skin’s sebum is predominately composed of oleic acid. Those with acneic/oily skin tend to have low levels of linoleic acid and thus the higher levels of oleic acid in our skin can lead to clogged pores and an overproduction of sebum. Who knew?
Beauty oils can be especially effective for those with adult acne because it addresses other skin aging problems such as pigmentation, fine lines, and sun damage.
It’s best to look for oils that are not only higher in linoleic acid, but also organic, cold-pressed and free of parabens and other chemical preservatives.
List of Oils Higher in Linoleic Acid:
Evening Primrose Oil—Oleic–8.4% Linoleic–72.6%
Safflower Oil (Organic)—Oleic–8-30% Linoleic–68-85%
Hemp Seed Oil—Oleic–10.71% Linoleic–56.48%
Wheat Germ Oil—Oleic–12.1% Linoleic–58.4%
Rosehip Seed Oil—Oleic–13.9% Linoleic–44.1%
Grape Seed Oil (Organic)—Oleic–16.2% Linoleic–70.6%
Black Seed Oil—Oleic–22.6% Linoleic–55.6%
Soybean Oil—Oleic–22.72% Linoleic–52.97%
Pumpkin Seed Oil—Oleic–23.3% Linoleic–57.2%
You can buy many of the above pure oils here and here.
I added tamanu oil to my skincare routine last year & really thought it made a difference. It’s a bit high in oleic acid, so I’m thinking about switching to rosehip, grapeseed, or pumpkin seed pure oil. What about you? Do you have a beauty oil in your routine? Has it helped? Would love to hear your thoughts!
Until next time…
