A few weekends ago my Potato and I were having a midday cocktail at the Whisper Lounge. I had a cocktail on the menu that tasted just like root beer. The mixologist referred me to ROOT liqueur, a brand from Philadelphia based collective Art in the Age.
A bit of history about Root liqueur: Native Americans taught colonial settlers in the 1700’s how to make Root Tea. With time the potency of the recipe increased, and by the 1800’s the alcohol content was removed from the recipe, and it was re-named Root Beer. ROOT liqueur is a recreation of root tea using original methods.
I absolutely loved Root Beer when I was younger, so I jumped at the chance to make a more ‘adult’ version of the Root Beer Float. Just a note, the cream soda is nice compliment to the ROOT liqueur. On my first try I made the mistake of using root beer soda, but with the liqueur, the taste is way too overpowering.
SPIKED ROOT BEER FLOAT
2 parts ROOT Liqueur
6 Parts Cream Soda
2-3 scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream
Place 2-3 scoops of ice cream into a tall glass. Add ROOT and cream soda. Enjoy!
