Last weekend I had an amazing time in San Francisco. It was a short turnaround, but we made the most of our time there. This was my Brett’s first time to San Francisco and he loved it so much,he didn’t want to leave. Once we arrived Saturday afternoon, we quickly checked into the W Hotel and decided to walk around to explore the area, and enjoy the crisp weather.
After walking thru the Financial District, we spent some time exploring Chinatown. We’re both huge tea drinkers, and we came across a large store that had complimentary tastings. We ended up buying some of the flavors we enjoyed. As we continued walking we came across a New Orleans style band playing in a bar. The music was so energetic & fun, we couldn’t help but stop for a a drink.
Next up was prepping for the bulk of our evening. The foodies we are, we had no problem waiting an hour in line to get a same day reservation at San Francisco’s most talked about restaurant State Bird Provisions. The Yelp reviews were beyond flattering, so we had to give the reservations a shot. In line we met a wonderful couple from Seattle, and the restaurant offered delicious complimentary hot chocolate to everyone in line.
After we received our 9pm reservation we changed at the hotel and met our line buddies at a reataurant close by for a quick pre-dinner drink. We didn’t get seated until almost 10pm, but once we had our first bite, any doubt of the waiting so long to eat was quickly erased. We not only chose food from their menu, but also tried many selections on their ‘dim sum’ -style cart. In total we had 14 different tapas (icluding dessert). Each dish was better than the last. My favorites were highlights were the cheese pancake with garlic aioli & tomatoes. The smoked trout mousse with homemade chops was delish. Brett’s favorites included the air-dried beef, and the pork belly with apple, cilantro & basil. We were so full by the time dessert came around but we managed to scarf down 2 desserts. The winner? Oilve oil cake ice cream sandwich with balsamic strawberries and pecorino cheese.
With our belly’s full, we settled for a nightcap back at the hotel. We continued our adventures for a few more hours before we hopped on a plane back to Los Angeles.
I can’t stop thinking about the wonderful food and weather in San Francisco. I’m kicking myself that we hadn’t gone earlier, but I promise we’ll be back.

Until then…
