inYou know life is sometimes so frickin’ awesome that you want to soak up every laugh, every look, every taste and scent and moment for yourself instead of focusing on documenting everything. That’s how I felt leading up to my wedding day October 13th. My eyes were practically falling out of my head from stalking dozens of wedding Pinterest boards. I was so busy working, planning, auditioning, taking acting class and switching between moments of pure excitement and pure stress that I decided it was best I just succumb to what was going in my life and actually enjoy it. All of it. The good and the bad. So I stopped blogging.
In that time, I experienced the the best day of my life. I tell ya, it’s weird being called a wife, and I’m still getting used to hearing the word ‘husband’ come out of my mouth. A word that now is referencing someone I’m married to! Today is my 2 month wedding anniversary. and seemed like the perfect time to come back to redvelvetandwhiskey. I’ll be returning back to blogging slowly, but surely. I intend to post pictures from the wedding soon. But for right now, I’m just a little busy enjoying married life.

inI can’t believe The Fourth of July is already upon us. My day will start with a couple of hours at work in the morning, but afterwards I’m looking forward to hanging with friends and chowing down on some good grub. In the meantime, these images are definitely putting me in a patriotic mood.

inEarly on, my potato and I decided that we were opposed to the über traditional wedding reception. I hate when the dinner takes up so much time that you rarely have time to really party, dance, mingle & generally have fun. Therefore, we opted to have a cocktail party. After the ceremony, we’ll have an extended cocktail hour with several passed tray hours d’ouevres and a full bar leading us straight into party mode! We loved this idea, but it also meant the cocktails had to not only be really tasty, but truly unique.
Enter Talmadge and his company Pharmacie. I first discovered his company while perusing the images of a wedding featured in Martha Stewart Weddings that he worked his magic on. Later I noticed a few notable mentions on wedding blogs, so when I noticed our venue put him on their preferred vendor list, I knew we had to give him a try.
We were eager to arrive at his tasting kitchen in Burbank and soon after realized we were going to have a hard task on our hands of settling on a cocktail menu. His mixology skills are top-notch and everything we tasted, I mean EVERYTHING was beyond delicious! In total we tasted about twelve cocktails, but we eventually settled on 4. A whiskey (of course!)cocktail, one Bourbon whiskey cocktail, a Tequila based cocktail, and one made with Calvados. Oh, I did I mention we’re also doing a champagne bar?
Yep. Can’t wait.
Thinking about going the cocktail route for your wedding instead of a full on reception? Check out the tips below:

A dance break for me is very much needed this week, and so I immediately thought of one of my favorite songs and (video) Take on Me by A-Ha. It reminds me of the summer I spent before my senior year in high school at Interlochen Arts Camp. After an intense 8 hour day of dancing, I would go jogging in the backwoods behind camp, then fast forward to this song on my Walkman and dance it out in the middle of the woods. Fast forward to today…if you are imagining that I’m I’m in the middle of my living room dancing to this song in my underwear, you’d be right.

As promised! The second installment in my flavored ice-cube series. Check out the first here.
I love when an experiment turns out for the best, and that’s exactly what happened in this case. With the arrival of fresh berries you know that summer has arrived and I wanted a refreshing drink that was sweet, but also let the berries have their time in the limelight. This does the job.
VANILLA VODKA WITH BLACKBERRY FLAVORED ICE CUBE
1/2 cup fresh blackberries
4-5 sprigs of of mint
1/4 cup of Blackberry Crush from Trader Joe’s- or any berry flavored drink
3 tablespoons of simple syrup
3 tablespoons of water
2 oz Smirnoff Vanilla flavored Vodka (any flavored vanilla vodka will do)
1/2-1 oz of club soda
1 Tovolo Ice Sphere Mold OR regular ice tray
Directions:
Shred the sprigs of mint. Mix the blackberries mint together in a bowl. Add Blackberry Crush, simple syrup, and water. Pour all ingredients into an ice tray. Freeze for 2-5 hours.
Remove from fridge and ice cube(s) to vodka in a short or tall glass. Top off with club soda. Add a blackberry and sprig of mint to garnish.
Drink up!

inI have a confession: I am one of those people who hoard magazines for pretty pictures, new recipes, DIY projects, fashion trends I plan to wear, and other inspirational tools. I used to think I was crazy for doing this until my friend Gwendolyn gave me the brilliant idea of categorizing the pages I tear from magazines. My boyfriend Brett thinks I’m a weird paper hoarder that is probably single-handedly ruining the eco-system.
But, now it is a brand new day, beacuse I can do it all on Pinterest. The brilliant idea of a virtual pinboard has not been lost upon me. Let’s just say that I am indeed addicted.
So, join in on my addiction, and follow me on Pinterest!
